“Cosmetic Dermatology: What’s New and What’s for Keeps.”

Consultants and Residents of Skin and Cancer Foundation, Inc. with Keyspeaker Dr. Rungsima and Host Dr. Neil Oropeza

After last year’s success in Bohol, Skin and Cancer Foundation, Inc has done it again with a well-attended 7thPost Graduate Course entitled “Cosmetic Dermatology: What’s New and What’s for Keeps.” It was held at SCFI graduate Dr. Neil Oropeza’s Oroderm City in Davao last May 28, 2016. Majority of participants flew from Manila but many Davaoeños also joined the said event.

Dr. Soriano stared the morning session by discussing the latest advances in body contouring. Dr. Rex Gloria shared about how hormones can work to slow the aging process, which is a concern of most of our patients. Dr. Oropeza spoke about two of his favorite machines:  ARTAS and Picosure, which make hair transplantation as well as pigment removal and skin rejuvenation less tedious for Dermatologists while giving better results to our patients.

Key speaker Dr. Rungsima Wanitphakdeedecha from Thailand shared about her experience in rejuvenation of the face and periorbital area.  She emphasized the importance of being subtle when doing augmention and reshaping. For the skin, she talked about fractional resurfacing, which is safe and effective to use and is seen as the trend for the next few years.

During the afternoon session, Dr. Ferrariz kept the audience’s attention by discussing Sclerotherapy from A to Z, from its indications to injection techniques to various sclerosing agents that every dermatologist should know about. Dr. Arancel tackled the principles of nerve blocks, its use and risks, equipment used, as well as blocks in the face and extremities.  Dr. Dylan Chau from Singapore discussed about the use of PDO threads in nonsurgical face lifting.

As a finale to the post-graduate course, a live demonstration of filler injection was performed by Dr. Jonathan Yu with the supervision of Dr. Rungsima. It was fascinating to see two experts in Cosmetic Dermatology working as a team to satisfy a patient’s request to have an enhanced nose and a more youthful face.
