HISTORY OF SKIN AND CANCER FOUNDATION INC.

In 1984, 4 U.S. –trained dermatologists: Dr. Vermén M. Verallo (Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Diplomate U.S.A. Dermatology Boards), Dr. Judy Y. Cuaso (University of Pennsylvania, Diplomate, Dermatology, USA), Dr Manuel O. Fernandez Jr (Temple University, Pennsylvania, board –eligible US Dermatology Boards) and Dr. Sylvia S. Jacinto (New York University-Bellevue Medical Center, board-eligible, US Dermatology Boards) formed the SCF with the vision to train provincial candidates in order to place well-trained dermatologists all over the Philippines to practice in the underserved areas. There were only a handful of trained dermatologists in Manila then.
Since then we have placed over 90 provincial graduates all over the Philippines including Mindanao. The rest of the graduates in Metro Manila teach in the residency program of SCF gratis.
A few years ago, SCF has expanded its vision to train Asians to help the Philippines achieve a reputation as a good training center for dermatology in Southeast Asia, and we have graduated Indonesian dermatologists.
The SCF was the second approved program for dermatology residency of the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS), the subspecialty society under the Philippine College of Physicians, one of the Specialty societies of the Philippine Medical Association Inc. It is one of now 15 approved dermatology residency programs of the PDS,
We are the only residency program with  preceptorships Drs. Vermén Verallo-Rowell, Jasmin Jamora, Krisinda Dim-Jamora, Gaile Robredo-Vitas, and Jonathan Yu. We believe that this is important to teach residents to flow into the practice of dermatology. We currently also see charity patients in Victoriano Luna Medical Center, a tertiary government hospital in Quezon City and Ospital ng Makati Hospital , a general hospital in Makati City. SCFI was also previously affiliated with other hospitals like Quirino Memorial Medical Center and Fort Bonifacio Naval Station Hospital. Our graduates are among the busiest dermatologists all over the Philippines and hopefully, also Indonesia. We are very proud of this achievement.
We hope that we can help you fulfill your life’s dream to become not only good dermatologists but also caring, sharing, loving and harmonious human beings.
